Michael Costello inspired

Lauren Gudz and I have finally reached look #3, inspired by the Michael Costello show. If you missed the first two tutorials, you can find look #1 here and look #2 here.

What I love about Michael Costello’s collections is how fully inclusive his designs are. It doesn’t matter what shape or size you are, his designs are meant to be envisioned for anyone. This SS/2018 Bridal and Couture collection was all about florals, intricate lace detailing and was finished off with a stunning “Cotton Candy” bun. This was a perfect hairstyle because it allowed for the outfits to really shine.

We decided to recreate this bun, by toning it down a tad and making it a little more day-to-day ready. Check out the deets below to see the steps for creating this bun masterpiece!

Here are the steps to achieve this super easy, voluminous “Cotton Candy” bun
– Start by combing the hair up into a neat high ponytail, use a comb to ensure you get all the stray hairs up into the ponytail and secure tightly
– Using a back-combing brush or comb, take 1-inch sections of hair from the ponytail and backcomb creating a loose, fluffy piece of hair
-Continue to do this until you have backcombed most of the hair from the ponytail, if you have thicker hair back-combing about half the ponytail will be enough. But if you have thinner hair, backcomb all the hair in the ponytail.
-Take the hair you have just backcombed, wrap it in around the base of the ponytail, and secure with bobby pins
-Use your fingers to pull at the bun until you reach the desired look and messiness
