Charcoal has become so very trendy in the last year and I'm beyond obsessed. Charcoal is great for the skin because it draws out impurities, excess oil, and all of the nasty breakout-causing bacteria.
Oh, and I’m sure you’re wondering about this. The difference is that activated charcoal is treated with oxygen, which makes the molecule bigger and the surface becomes more porous. So, activated is really the way to go because it absorbs all of the nasty things we don’t want just that much better than regular charcoal. So, we want to find skincare products with ACTIVATED charcoal!
Just doing some skincare research with my favorite little assistant ;)!
My favorite activated charcoal skincare product at the moment would have to be the My Organic Zone Charcoal Mask. I love using it on my nose and t-zone to help with blackhead congestion and to balance oil production. Now, this is a peel-off mask, which tbh… Is just not my jam, I think it hurts! I just prefer to leave it on until it’s dry, then add a bit of water and use a washcloth to gently rub it off. Obvi it’s just personal preference, but you can definitely still reap the benefits of this mask without peeling it off!
The MOZ Charcoal Mask is literally a perfect dupe for the Boscia Luminizing Black Charcoal Mask. I’ve tried both and the My Organic Zone mask is just as good and it’s WAY less expensive ($23 vs $45).
I know another trend in the health/wellness/beauty world is actually ingesting charcoal! But when it comes to that…It’s a bit of a different story. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE a good charcoal lemonade! But I recently read this article about activated charcoal and it was really interesting! So perhaps, for now, I’ll take it easy on the drinks and just stick to putting it on my skin ;).
Both of the fur babies are clearly MOZ fans ;).
Another ingredient I’m obsessed with lately is vitamin c, My Organic Zone also makes a super good vitamin c serum that I talk about in that post. Their entire skincare range is bomb AF, I review 3 more of their ultra clean and non-toxic beauty products here.
